Hi, I'm Shona!

Do you remember that kid who couldn’t pick just one colour and had to draw with every crayon or felt-tip in the box? Yep, it’s me! I’m still that kid.

Curiosity and creativity have always shaped how I see the world. As a kid it showed up in art supplies and constant experimenting. Today it shows up in the way I approach interior design with homeowners across Greater Vancouver.

But colour and creativity aren’t really the heart of Heartspace. Collaboration is. I don’t design for my clients. I design with them.

My role isn’t to impose a signature style or chase whatever trend is circulating this year. It’s to listen closely, notice the things that light you up, and help uncover the version of your home that feels unmistakably yours.

Sometimes that means exploring ideas you hadn’t considered before. Sometimes it means giving your instincts the confidence to come forward. Most often, it means working together until the design reflects not just what looks beautiful, but what feels right.

Background +
Process

I graduated from BCIT in 2007 and have spent the years since building experience in kitchen and bath design, colour strategy, renovation planning, and home styling.

Renovations come with real budgets, real timelines, and a long list of decisions and as an experienced designer I know how all those pieces fit together. But good design work also depends on something less technical. Its also about managing the overwhelm to bring clarity and lightness so you can move forward with confidence.

We’ll explore ideas together, test possibilities on paper, and refine the details until everything starts to feel aligned. Sometimes the most interesting solutions come from pushing a little beyond what feels safe, but always with intention. Brave ideas don’t have to be reckless, and thoughtful design never has to be boring.

Individuality + Expression

I believe our homes are creative spaces, and their design has an impact on our emotional well-being.

Your home should reflect the life happening inside it. The pieces you’ve collected over time, the memories attached to certain objects, the habits and routines that shape your days. All of that deserves a place in the design conversation. That could mean honouring your cherished heirlooms or finding new ways to showcase your favourite hobby. But most importantly it means embracing your quirks to make your space feel completely personal.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s a home that feels lived in, expressive, and genuinely yours.

Inclusivity & Values

Kindness, inclusivity, and open-mindedness are fundamental to how I work.

Heartspace is a welcoming place to create, where clients are both curious and collaborative, looking to build something meaningful, not just something impressive. This kind of creative work depends on trust and trust grows from respect. When we embrace that core foundation, the design process becomes much more than selecting finishes and furniture. It becomes a shared creative experience.

A Little Heartspace Magic

I love the moment when an idea suddenly clicks into place. I love helping clients see the potential in something they weren’t sure about. And I’m not shy about celebrating those moments when the design really starts to come alive.

You’ll get encouragement when you need it, and honest guidance when decisions feel hard. Together we’ll feel a burst of excitement when something unexpected works out perfectly.

We’re not designing a home to impress your neighbours. We’ll create a space that feels good to live in every day. A home that reflects who you are and supports the way you want to live.

If that resonates, I’d love to connect.

“I have used Shona twice now and have been recommending her to everyone. Shona’s approach to interior design is all about the best use of space for the customer. It is not so much about what’s trendy right now or what others are doing, but rather what will work for YOU, which is amazing.”
